DVDSP will let you import the mov as an asset,, but from my understanding doesn’t do as good a job as compressor,,

I also ran into bitrate trouble a couple times trying this. thought I would save time by bypassing compressor and import a short 8-bit uncompressed .mov directly into DVDSP.. built my title page,, so on,, went to burn,, it took it quite a while to convert the mov,, then started to build,,,, muxing,,, almost done,, *ERROR- Bitrate too high** This wasnt due to improper project settings,, they were bang on,, it was the encoded media…
This same method has worked for me aswell.. so it can be a hit or miss situation.. or perhaps using a lower bitrate codec .mov to begin with could help the situation.

I took a look at that one,, they have little mov’s on CHV’s web site showing the effect work,, wasn’t overly impressed with it,, the morph effect doesnt “morph” the entire image,, while you watch, most of the image ‘morphs’ from one clip to the next,, but some of it seems to just cross-dissolve, kinda ruins the effect seeing the slight cross-dissolve. perhaps it works better in some instances than others? anyone had great success with this one?

**in the effects defence I havent tried the demo of it for myself on my own footage,, just going on what I saw in the example movie from their sire.

  • The simple reason your client asked for mpeg1 makes it uncool to give mpeg2 IMO. Unless you convince your client that a dif. format would be superior/better suited for intended purpose before delivery, you should always give your client what they asked for. If the delivered file is being passed directly through your client to someone making VCD’s,, a webmaster that wants all video to be mpeg1,,, whatever the case may be, if the mpeg2 that you gave is regected, holds up production and ends up costing your client a day,,, even a few hours,,, you might not hear from them again.. Then again nothing might happen,, the mpeg2 works just fine for her,, but do you take the chance??

as for the dif. with mpeg1 and 2,, mpeg2 supports higher resolutions/bitrates, where mpeg1 is said to be better than mpeg2 for lower bitrates. mpeg1 was used making VCD’s, mpeg2 for SVCD’s and DVD… im sure there a host of other differences,, but I honestly havent used the mpeg1 format in quite a while..

  • If your talking about light bars and such,, take a look that this thread.. they are talking about making the “glass scan look” but alter the “glass” layers peramaters and edge feather so on.. can yield nice results

  • are you talking about certain aspects of the video glowing,, or lightbars scanning the video??

I understand CSI editors use the saphire plug-in sets, not sure how frequently but take a look at their lighting effect package.

    https://www.genarts.com/sapphire-ae.html

A great set of plugs,, but you gotta pay for them,, about $1700us for the complete set,, or $599 for each box seperate..

there is a good free plug from riverrock studios out there called “chromatic glow.” I use this one quite frequently in combination with a couple other effects for some interesting results.

  • At the office,, on dual 2.0 g5’s (4gig ram), the news break guys use Targa GFX that transition from one to another, using simple dissolves, over video on an hourly segment,, with “render full” off, the GFX shift a line or 2 and slightly pixelate during the dissolve transitions.. It looks aweful. The same goes for PSD’s. With “render full” on, everything looks like it should.

as for myself,, If i’m working on larger projects that are not time sensitive (of course everything is,, i mean live broadcast deadline day of…) then I leave it off until im ready to output a rough cut for review, or final project.
When I am working with a fast approaching deadlines, I leave render full on,,

April 4, 2007 at 10:10 pm in reply to: Can I specify timecode in Edit to Tape?

As far as I can tell,, no can do with the DSR-40.. I use one most days,, and a while ago went through the manual and menu options to try and set TC to start at a specific time when crashing.. but no luck.

fortunatly have a dub rack with a DSR-80 on it within arms reach,, so I black the first minute of my output tapes in the 80 before outputing with the DSR-40.
