I’ve heard rumors that there are still some plug-in related bugs with 5.14. some boris plugs not working properly…
I’ve put about 10hours editing time in on 5.14 and haven’t run into any issues yet…. but so far i’ve been using mostly stock effects… i’ll be doing some flashier editing later,, very plug-in intensive.. i’ll let you know if I have any trouble..

I had a similar problem a while ago,, a couple render files dissapeared on me,, I could open the project, but it wouldn’t let me re-render the un-rendered media. to get around this, I added a random filter and set to 0 (or to have no effect on the media) and then it let me re-render.
I’m guessing you’ve also tried selecting the “forget missing files” option when it prompts you that the files are missing??

** be sure when draging your sequence into the edit-to-tape window you drop it on the “assemble” option
uhm… well….

You need to stripe your 2nd tape with enough timecode for pre-roll.. then edit to tape the sequence..
I use DSR-40’s, DSR-80’s, and DSR 1500a’s. on each you can set the crash record timecode to what ever you want. perhaps you cant on your DSR 25!?
If you can.. go into the menu on the deck, set your timecode to start at the TC you want, then do a crash record. (hit record and play on the deck) let it lay down a good 30 seconds of timecode. then go into final cut and edit-to-tape your sequence setting the in point to match that of your original timecode..
If your deck wont allow you to stripe your tape with user set timecode, then throw your second tape into your camera and do it there… just about every camera will let you set the starting timecode.

Use the H.264 codec, Frame size 320×240, 15fps, keyframe interval set to 75, limit data rate to 300 – 400 kbps,, Audio set to 32.000kHz
this should give you something around 5-10MB..
Something a little better (but bigger):H.264 Codec again, Frame size 480×360, use the same framerate as the project, limit data rate to 800kbps, keyframe interval set to 150,, Audio set to 48.000Hz
This should give you something around 20MB on a 4min project.
I mainly cut for TV Broadcast, but when ever i need to web compress a project for a client, I use the “export using compressor” funtion in FCP. It has many good presets, so not much trial and error needed,,, also,, it lets you know what the estimated file size will be before you begin exporting… very handy if there is a specific size limit.
*** I have use FCP ver. 5.1.1,, the ver. of compressor that was issued with FCP 4.5 was not as good.
uhm… well….
