There are a few express 32 slot eSata cards on teh market out there.
I do a lot of field editing/hotel room editing on a macbook pro with FW800 drives.
Its not bad at all on simple timelines, but if you are like myself and usually work on a fast mac pro station, you will notice a big perfomance difference when you add an effect or two, especially in AE/Motion (sorry, don’t use shake.) To speed up productivity of more complex timelines in FCP, AE, or Motion, I turn down the playback resolution to half or a third and that really speeds up responsiveness and playback performance.Colin McQuillan

I rather find this a blessing! Saved my butt once. I forgot a piece of media on a different drive while moving locations during an event,, but the timeline was rendered. I had the render folder and was able to export a self contained QT of the patch that was offline, import the QT Ref, and continue working away!

You can export a QT ref/self contained movie, then do anything to the resulting self contained QT. However, if you send the original timeline to compressor or to Quicktime Conversion, the media will need to re-render each frame, thus will not work because it will not be able to re-render the frames with offline media.

I’ve experimented a bit, but find I’m usually using the dual screen color correct pre-set with the waveform up full. At fist i found it strange having the clips/bins on the other side, but once I got used to it, I really like it. especially on the projects I’m currently working on that have many many many clips and bins. It’s nice to have them all up there on one dedicated screen.
I do keep a few other set-ups for specialized tasks as short-cut buttons in the customizable row just above the timeline (you know, just beside the snap and link buttons)

Try a nest. Put first filter on the clip, then nest the clip, now add 2nd filter to the nest

Good to know.
I was worried that the “enterprise” drives give up a few things in lew of a longe MTBF and vibration dampening.
I couldnt see much difference in the listed specs between them and the regular drives other than the longer MTBF and vibration absorbtion

If trashing/ re-rendering doesn’t work, take a look at the plug-ins you have on the clips.
I’ve seen some plugs that will cause interlace bleeding through to lower clips when stacked, some that cause field shifts, and others that give back funky color shifts and such when used in combination with other plugs, render settings, codecs…..
Let us know if the re-render doesn’t work, and what plugs you are using on the clips.
