  • video filter routing?

i’m having trouble understanding video routing.

i’d like to use 2 chroma keys on top of each other– one to filter out green, and another to further filter out another color.

when i put 2 chroma key effects on a clip, they don’t seem to “chain”. i want the output of one filter to go into the input of the second, like this:
orig clip –> 1st chroma key removes one color –> 2nd chroma key removes the other
    (result: both colors removed)

but it seems like the 2nd chroma key uses the original clip as input, so that the result on that clip only shows whichever chroma key is on top:
orig clip –> 1st chomra key removes one color (good so far)
(starts from scratch) orig clip –> 2nd chroma key removes other color
    (result: only 2nd color removed)

is there any filter routing so i can chain filters?

Try a nest. Put first filter on the clip, then nest the clip, now add 2nd filter to the nest

Nest might do it, or try putting a null filter in the middle. Something like desaturate @ 0% will do. Also, try using another keyer that isn’t the chroma keyer.

Getting the best chromakeys out of AE or FCP (or media 100) for me has usually been a case of applying keying filters to multiple copies of the same clip, not multiple copies of the keyer to the clip.

This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: “For crying out loud, read the freakin’ manual.”
