    if you want to make sure it is really in there, the Finder application is located in MacintoshHD/Library/CoreServices/Finder.

    You could try deleting Finder preferences (this once worked for me with an issue similar to yours). Finder prefs are located in your User directory ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist.

    If you have Pacifist app, you could use it to just reinstall Finder from your install disk.

    You should be able to use keyboard key combos to shut down or restart.
    Shutdown dialog = control+eject
    Restart = CMD+control+eject
    Power off = Cmd+control+Option+eject

    If the video looks like that on a video monitor connected to the video output of the Beta deck, it has the symptoms of low RF, either on the original recording or off the heads in the playback deck. Assume you’ve cleaned your Beta deck’s heads and transport before running “archival” tapes in it.
    How old is the archival material and do you know what it was recorded on?

    Visual Hub author Techspansion did close down, but the program was made available as open source, now named “Film Redux.” Install info and link to the file on sourceforge.net is at iSkysoft site.

    If you have not already rendered out your timeline, FCP must first create render files that your Reference Movie needs to point to. This may be what is taking time when you are exporting.

  • Two utilities I am aware of to do this:
    A Better Finder Attributes” from publicspace.net (free trial version available)
    Miana” from Limit Point Software (donation-ware)

    Use MPEG Streamclip to demux and extract DVD content and export to an FCP -friendly codec.
    Asked and answered almost daily on this forum.

    Disks that are provided with a computer like your G5, will not work for the G4. There are hardware and CPU-specific files that are on that version. Probably also true for the iBook set as well.
    Either purchase Leopard to get it up to “latest and greatest” (assuming sufficient RAM and drive space), or locate a 10.4.x Retail copy (not a machine-specific copy), available from many reliable online retailers, or eBay if you’re living dangerously.
