Hello Eric,

Test #1:
Plugged a pair of HP’s in the jack and there was NO noise at all. Music was very clear.

Test #2:
I plugged the monitors into the HP jack on the side of my HDTV that I use for playback (video editing) and the audio coming through there was excellent with no noise. So my guess is that something is causing interference from the monitors to the computer via that cable.

Test #3: My left monitor speaker is plugged into a multi-strip with about 10 other things. I removed the monitor from that strip and plugged into its own outlet on another wall. Plugged the cable into the computer and instantly all the noise and static returned.

Test #4: I removed both 1/4″ plugs from my monitors and plugged them directly into my Zoom H4N Audio Recorder and did a sample recording and it was clean as a whistle with no noise at all! The other end of that cable which is a standard headphone plug was still plugged into the computer.

I have a similar machine except I have 2.33 duo processor Macbook Pro and I have a Matrox MXO2 Mini with Max box connected to my laptop. After editing my work in FCP, I send it to Compressor and I use one of the Matrox settings for compression. The speed at which it compresses videos is very impressive! I am talking 3-5 minutes compression time for a video that is about 10-15 minutes in length. I love using the Matrox MXO2 box and my videos look really good on Youtube and Vimeo.

Not sure why its a pain to edit. I just shot a commercial for someone using my Nikon D7000 and I converted my clips which are 720/30p over to Apple ProRes 422 LT in Mpeg Streamclip. Make sure you slide the quality slider all the way over to 100. Click the aspect ratio for me I used 1280×720 HD720p and unchecked the box for deinterlace. Once the files were converted, editing in Final Cut Pro was a breeze. I will say that using Mpeg Streamclip was my 2nd option. I tried to go right from the SD Card into FCP and the video kept locking up or stuttering. Some clips played fine on my external monitor but not on the computer screen so I decided to convert them to ProRes and after that everything was fine. I figured since the files were .mov files coming out of the camera that I could go right into FCP and start editing but that wasn’t the case for me.

If I said Auto Focus then I made a mistake by saying that. I was completely in Manual everything so I know I wasn’t in auto focus mode. New to the D7000 coming from the D90. Yea I realized what my problem was after I posted my question. Your right I was wide open on the lens and the aperture was at 1.8 causing a very narrow depth of field. So I needed to up my aperture some and adjust the shutter…I tested that out this afternoon and I got better results than I was having earlier.

Thanks Jerry but just to be clear once he transcodes the HDSLR footage to DVCPRO HD, then both cameras will be matched up and all he would have to do now is select the right sequence settings for his timeline and when he drags a clip to the timeline from either camera he should not experience any need to render those clips correct?

Do you suggest that he use a DVCPRO HD sequence settings or can he use Apple ProRes 422? I did a recent shoot and it seems to me that some of the normal settings I use all the time didn’t work like I wanted and I had to use HDV 1440×1080 but I was mixing a HVX200 with a Canon XH-A1 both shooting 1080i/60.

Oh wow good to hear. Yea I just thought about the fact that I wouldn’t have an option for an expansion card. Actually the only one I have in my current G5 is I upgraded the graphics card some time ago. I will have to think about what I want to do. Thanks for the feedback!

Oh wow thats good to know! Well I took my machine to them and then they took it in the back and looked it over and tried to get it to work so I would think that if they saw that coolant they would have said something but I will look for it myself and see! LOL! Thanks for the heads up on that one!
