We are not long into v6.0c so I don’t expect to see a v7 before NAB next year… I would imagine? As for DVC Pro and Pro 50 support I don’t think so, would love to see it as we use DVC 25/50 all the time. The day Sony builds in support for a Panasonic codec is the day I will eat my hat. Which I will happily do should such a thing ever happen!

Not sure what the problem is in your case? Just tried it here using a PAL DV clip with another PAL DV on the track above. Set up a mask on the top track then rendered it to a new track and as a PAL DV clip. In both cases it rendered fine, both clips look just as they did in the preview window. Vegas 6.0c here. Will look a bit further, maybe a setting incorrect.

Yes I will check it out and post back. In the meantime I have got around the problem by using Scenalyzer v4.0 Beta using the Canopus Edius drivers and in v4.0 it allows you to check the import as Vegas AVI2 type files which have been coming in with the correct lower field dominance. Much prefer to use Scenalyzer because I find it a far better capture app than the Vegas one plus Scenalyzer v4.0 is much improved over the earlier v2.0 if anyone is interested.

Read my post from September:
https://forums.creativecow.net/cgi-bin/new_read_post.cgi?forumid=24&postid=857282&pview=t#head
I got no replies to this post about the weird Canopus/Vegas field dominance question back then but this may shed some light on the subject. The problem we have is that one Vegas 6.0c box sees Canopus files as lower field and the other, also 6.0c sees them as upper field!! Go figure. I have found that there is no problem working with the Canopus files with upper field dominance if you change the field order in the clip properties. ‘Cos if you don’t the renders are just plain sadness over the wasted time, horrible major field tearing. Thanks for the info though as I will now have a look to see why the two Vegas boxes are seeing Canopus files differently as I would imagine the .ini files are the same on both boxes as we haven’t modified them.

Have a look at the URL below and it may help you out. It looks like your VR disc is not finalised and therfore won’t play on most DVD players, only on certain DVD recorders.

A couple of things to check. Under ‘project settings’ make sure your ‘stage size’ matches your Vegas format pixel specs and that ‘full frame’ is checked. That under preferences your width and height match the project settings. The stage size setting is important as if this is different to your Vegas settings your output renders will be different to the image size you brought into PI. Finally when you go to render out check that under ‘output options’ that ‘output size’ is set to 100%. PI is a true WYSIWYG GUI and if your output size is not 100% your renders will be smaller than your stage size, and again, remember that the stage size must match the pixel res in Vegas to get accurate size render outputs. Since following these steps I haven’t had any mismatched renders. Mind you this is all in a PAL environment but I would imagine that the same should apply in NTSC if that’s what you are working in. Good luck!

As Ed said check the Windows volume controls and look for ‘Sound & Audio Device Properties’. On the ‘audio’ tab look for sound recording and ‘volume’. This selection button should take you to ‘recording control’. On the control panel look for the ‘microphone’ slider, check that it’s all the way up and if it has an ‘advanced’ tab at the bottom select that and on the ‘advanced controls’ panel hopefully you will find a ‘mic boost’ check box, tick it. If that doesn’t do it you may need a mic pre-amp to get sufficient input gain.

Also remember that with replicated (pressed) DVD’s you can have Macrovision and CSS copy protection enabled, as long those flags are set. This you can do if you use DVD Architect 3.0 for your authoring. For what its worth I don’t know if it’s justified going to the extra cost of doing it these days. The number of DVD’s we have done that we know have been copied is a joke. Everyone seems to have all the available DVD rip/copy software that circumnavigates these protection schemes.

Had similar problems when I first installed V6 on WinXP SP1. They weren’t resolved until I went to WinXP SP2 plus updating the Microsoft .Net Framework to v1.1 SP1, plus I think there may even have been another patch I added after that. If you don’t have these items installed it may be, just may be the cause of your problems. I know it resolved all our Media Manager issues. Good luck.

Vegas 6.0 supports up to a maximum number of four rendering threads, selected under the options/prefs/video tab. From that I gather this will make best use of the Dual Core Extreme HT editions which have the four logical CPU’s. With the Pentium D 840 processors you have only the two logical procs and no HT so it seems to me that Vegas 6.0 will have no render benefit with more than two threads enabled. There is quite a good analysis of this at:
https://www.tomshardware.com/cpu/20050405/pentium_d-03.html
Interestingly when it comes to video rendering the standard dual core Pentium D 840 without HT is actually faster in some cases than the dual core extreme procs with HT enabled in bios. I can’t say I fully understand the why of this but the results at:
https://www.tomshardware.com/cpu/20050405/pentium_d-18.html
are interesting to say the least. The previous pages to the link above were also food for thought. Still trying to get my head around all this dual core info and the best way to use it with Vegas.
