Hi D ~
Well yes I thought the same, is it Mac. No it wasn’t. It is a single 500gig disc with NTFS format, a Lacie d2 Big Disc HiSpeed USB2. Having nothing to loose I did a complete format on it and checked that it was plugged into a USB2 port, one that has been used heaps before with WD USB2 drives. Still the same problem. Swapped out USB the cable that came with it for a known good cable off another drive. Problem still exists. Looks like I will be asking him to come in with another drive. Sure as anything I don’t want to capture to my raid then transfer to his Lacie, fifteen hours of it, a real time killer. The strange thing is that in copying a large file to it from the raid it seems to be working as fast as most USB2 drives. I ran HDTach on it and it comes in at similar speeds to most single 7200rpm drives, around 32MB/s. Well down on the raid’s 110 average but I expected that. Got me beat!

Thanks for that Mike, have had a good Google on the subject, know a bit more now! Might have it licked after busting my brain getting my head around the parent/child thing. It’s working well. The trick was to make up a 3k grid for the base track, the wall in other words, and track all my upper track moves to that, save the pan/crop moves on the base track and then right click my ‘wall’ pic and drop it over the grid as a ‘take’. Taking some time time though but so far it’s on the pixel so to speak.

Thanks for the quick reply. Sorry Ed, I wasn’t clear enough in my first post. This I can do no problems with still images. In fact that is what I did, make a 3k x 3k template in photoshop. This had the positions for pictures as blank rectangles. The problem is that the pictures on the wall are supposed to be moving video and this is what I am having trouble with. Getting these to move in lock step with the pans, tilts and moves on the 3k wall background. The picure pan speeds and moves aren’t in sync with the moves on the 3k track even though I am using exactly the same keyframe times. Just can’t quite get it right. Using the same smoothness settings etc, etc. Very close but not quite there!

Been down the same road. One sytem here has Nvidia dual head and another has a ATI Radeon dual, both had the color diff weirds. This can be corrected by going into graphics card settings. Call me one arvo in the studio when I am in front of the boxes and I can talk you through the adjustments if you are not sure how to do it.
Cheers

July 29, 2006 at 3:26 pm in reply to: What format to encode .VEG files to get into Flash .FLVBy far the best and quickest results I have obtained was by rendering out an uncompressed QuickTime at the pixel size you want the final .flv to be, say 320×240 or whatever your choice is, this really holds the quality, and then using Flash Video 2 and outputting an .flv of the same size. Very good results.

When I ran into this problem in the past I installed the ‘Ace Mega Codec Pack’ and since then have never had an audio or video clip that I can’t play other than some Avid clips. This pack can be installed in various operational modes and there is ‘Dashboard’ which allows you to install/remove codes as you whish. I have it installed on three systems and have had nothing but success with it. Go to
https://www.free-codecs.com/download/ACE_Mega_CoDecS_Pack.htm
and you will see all the codecs listed. You can also download it at this site, it’s free!
IMPORTANT! It’s always advisable to create a System Restore Point before installing most codecs just in case they do conflict with any other app you have on the system. At least this way you can go back if necessary.

Try usig the ‘compressor’ available under the plugin icon in the audio track header. It has a number of presets but you can also try adjusting the input and output gain sliders and applying some compression of up to around 6dB and this will lift your overall level and subjective ‘loudness’ and reduce the dynamic range and should give you a far more useable output. If there is some hiss/noise when you do this, as can happen when you lift very low levels, you could try adding the ‘noise gate’ plugin in the chain and try starting it at around -35dB and see if this will help clean up the bottom end. Try not to go too high with this as you may gate the lower audio levels with some nasty results. Use with care!
You can buy some great plugins that would fix this problem very easily. I use the Waves L1, L2 and L3 Ultramaximiser plugins for all our audio work as they give superb results.

Adding to Fuddam’s suggestions. Select ‘Num Lock’ on the numeric keypad, use 7 or 9 or the keyboard brackets [ ] to go to the head or tail of a clip, the clip will now have a ‘red’ bracket at its end. Next place the cursor over that selected cut point between the two clips, hold CTRL & ALT keys together and using the numeric pad keys 1 or 3 you can “roll” the cut point to the left or right a frame at a time with a dual picture trim window. More key taps either way equals more frames trimmed. I dont know of any shortcut in Vegas to trim a set number of frames at a time. If you unlock the audio you can roll the video or audio cut points between the two clips independantly. A quick way of doing video or audio split edits.

PW nailed it! Have seen this problem before, overlapping menu elements. If the preview screen (PC) has the screen resolution set too low to support the screen real estate required by the preview this can happen. Despite the fact that all appears ok on the edit screen. Also found it was best to have the preview mode set to ‘High’ if you want get previews that come close to the desired end result.

Make sure you are following the Decklink capture instructions as outlined at:
https://www.blackmagic-design.com/support/detail.asp?techID=105
If you are following these instructions and still having a problem it would be best to contact Blackmagic to try and trouble shoot the problem.
