It is the only way to work if you plan to do any titling, color correction, compositing or basically anything except a straight cuts only DV timeline!!

I believe that means it is gay.

Well stated!!
I bypassed the whole HDV conundrum in my studio with this little jewel. Any clients who have HDV and want editing or dubs, I can just use this camera. It has the same tape transport as the deck! The CMOS chip is better than the three chip CCDs anyway! I also agree that the best route into FCP is through an HDV to HD-SDI converter, then just work in true HD, which FCP does fine.

It is probably a Quicktime 7 file and your Windows customer probably doesn’t have Quicktime 7 yet. It is a free download!

Mitch,
It looks like you didn’t see the August 13 post where I found the “culprit.” It is now in the COW for the archives for anyone else who encounters this problem!

The IO has worked wonderfully for me so far. Usually tech support has been outstanding with AJA. I don’t know what happened to them this last week. If all you are using is a Betacam, the IO-LA should work fine for you. I will be investing in the Kona 2 soon, and I love the fact that I will be able to send SDI from the IO to the Kona 2, so I will then have all possible In/Out connections covered!

I think the RS-422 deck control problem with the Sony DSR-1500 may have had something to do with my Airport network settings! Apple Software update said it had a newer version of the Airport software awhile back and I installed it. Occasionally (and sporadically) a screen would come up asking if you wanted to keep all your old Airport network settings and permissions or change them all (of course this action being “irreversible”). I had always selected “do not change” until yesterday when I selected “change them all.” When I re-booted after that, my RS-422 machine control was fully restored to the DSR-1500!! Go figure….

I think there are major problems with FCP 5, AJA IO and Sony decks. I have a DSR-1500 where the only way I can capture SDI is through “uncontrollable device.” I gave up on AJA tech support after 6 calls and more emails with no resolution or even replies. Not being able to capture with time code for future digitizing sessions is not acceptable in my studio work. I usually find silence is the answer when AJA can’t figure it out or doesn’t have a bug fix for you!

Kristi,
Try changing your render settings to “Linear(fastest)” instead of “Normal” or “Best.” I have had to experiment with all these settings because they have a huge effect on speed changes, cropping clips, and text being rendered in FCP 5.02.

No luck!! I tried pulling the HDV and DVCPROHD codecs out of the Quicktime folder (these caused problems with Boris RED video output and various other problems through the IO in 4.5), uninstalling the latest IO drivers and FCP, reinstalling both, Trashing the IO Control Panel, reinstalling Quicktime etc., and I can’t get machine control to work on the DSR-1500! I’m also trying to find the answer through Aja Tech Support, so we’ll post the fix if we find out what it is!
