Most people I know who are shooting “run and gun” with the FS-100 rig up either a velcro or tape solution to add a “safety loop” so you don’t accidently hit or yank the firewire out while you are moving.

This is the only workflow I and several other professionals have ever used with the HVX-200. I have never had any problems with either of the drives I own, and with the new firmware you don’t even have to deal with the P2 data or convert it to Quicktime files before editing in FCP. Most of the problems I see are people who don’t know how to navigate the menus and set-up the FS-100 properly according to the very simple instructions. As a matter of fact, most people I know have more problems with the P2 card workflow. The FS-100 is especially useful for performance shoots where you need more than 16GB of storage to capture the entire performance with a single drive. -
My sentiments exactly. Just because Sound Forge “never did this before” is no excuse not to upgrade the program into a multitrack editor. I would love to be able to only edit audio in SF without having to go into Vegas, which I find tedious and cumbersome compared to other true audio editing apps.

I have downloaded it and was disappointed that it hadn’t turned into a true multitrack editor. It only accepts import from a multitrack file or a multitrack control surface. Very disappointing IMHO.

Yes, a picture tells a thousand words! Here I thought ole Bob was a TV engineer like the ones I worked with at PBS long ago, you know the ones with the black corrective shoes, short Brylcreemed black hair and coke-bottle horn rimmed glasses. Come to find out he looks like a refugee from either the Wizard of Oz scarecrow segment or is lurking about on the Led Zeppelin “Stairway to Heaven” cover! Welcome Roberto!

I have to agree with Douglas. Especially with the new 3.01 upgrade, working with the FS-100 is seamless, painless and flawless. Recording to Quicktime files has cut my studio editing time in half, and the footage looks awesome. I will never go back to using the expensive P2s!

When I want to clown my old drives, I just set them up with a funny hat and a fake bulbous red nose.

And actually, the most recent Philips DVD recorder (now at your local Best Buy for a whopping $149.00!) can record to DVD-R/(W), DVD+R/(W)and still has the component ins. Even when I did only have the model that recorded only to DVD+Rs, I would keep that as my DVD Master, and use the duplicating tower to make 8X DVD-Rs from that Master. Fortunately, I have never had a returned DVD from a client either!
