I beg to differ. Most of the FS-100 users will be/are HVX-200 customers who only have access to two P2 slots. Until Panasonic makes 64 GB cards for around $500.00 each, using the Firestore is a no brainer. Also (5) 32 GB cards will set you back financially quite a bit more than a single FS-100 will. -
Is this happening only when you are recording, or when you power it up period?? The only time I have had experience with “freezing” was a bad firewire cable or connection.

Invest in the Firestore. You get 294 minutes of 720Pn HD footage on a single drive. Also invest in the Power Bag Junior for the FS-100 battery. You can shoot all day with it. A friend of mine shot an entire PBS documentary in Spain in the field with the FS-100, backed up to external FW drives at night, and never missed a frame. For documentary and long form work, the P2 workflow is a major pain in the @*&.

The P2 pricing is exactly why I never invested in the P2 workflow, I chose the Firestore. I have been completely happy with the FS-100 performance and reliability since I first bought the HVX-200, and won’t (and don’t need to) look back. (Unless, of course, the P2 cards reach 64 GB capacity each and sell for around $500.00!)

If the firewire comes out, it stops recording of course. You just need to reinsert it and start recording again. This can corrupt a clip, but just use the “repair clip” option in the FS-100 and it will be good until the cable was pulled ;>).
As far as the Quicktime clips, they are all broken down into individual clips due to the FAT 32 limitation of the FS-100 Hard Drive.

Most people I know who are shooting “run and gun” with the FS-100 rig up either a velcro or tape solution to add a “safety loop” so you don’t accidently hit or yank the firewire out while you are moving.
