Shooting 720p does not reduce quality.
When shooting HD you choose between 720p and 1080i
Different HD formats with different specs and looks.

B/c there is a know issues with PP and the Animation codec.
Try rendering it out using Prores444

720pn, 30fps @1/60

Looks like you shot progressive.
Make sure you’re editing in a 720 sequence and NOT a 1080 sequence.

Your media should NOT be on the internal hard drive. That is for OS and Apps. You will have poor performance in trying to do so.

You need dedicated hard drives for video editing. Preferable an external raid. You can have a couple internal drives striped for what you’re editing though.

Also, in the browser, take a clip and drop it into a blank/new/emty sequence and let FCP match it. This is your best quality.

Without knowing your footage specs, it’s hard to recommend the prores flavor best suited for you.
If you shot DVCPROHD, leave the sequence the same.

When you export, export current settings. Take That file into your compression program and create the deliverable. See the Vimeo site for ideal specs.

Many folks shoot slo-mo on 720 and res it up to fit the 1080 sequence.
Sounds like you’ll need to use WS the old fashion way and go to AE…

You can also just import both files.
Select both once in proj. “right” click and choose make timeline.
It’s the same thing I guess.

Then you need to select first play.

Maybe seek out some tutorials on line…

Like Steve said, make sure the input selection on the deck is correct.
Feed the Monitor out of the deck and you will see what the deck sees, Get it right before you edit to tape.
You have machine control it sound like…
Choose SDI for your input, check the menues on the deck. Confirm.

SDI input is the best choice yes.
Make sure the BMD is set to signal out to the SDI.
You need to down convert if your Sequence is HD.
If “Print to Tape” works. Do that.
