Depends on what you consider a quick turn-around. Will you have an overnite to compress your HD master to your DV deliverable? When the edit is complete.

Ah man, Mini-DV for archival??? That is a horrible way to go.
Make a Digital Master and put it on a couple hard drives.

Going tapeless is daunting at first. You get so used to having camera tapes on the shelf for security. Once you get used to tapeless though, it’s no biggy.

You copy the raw camera files from the cards to a hard drive. You back it up 2 or 3 times. Redundancy for security. Hard drives are cheap.

FCP Works really well with many different formats from many different cameras.

Panasonic cams are great for shooting HD or SD.

Look into the HPX170 or the brand new HPX250 shooting on P2 Cards.
They shoot:

DV
DV50
DVCPROHD
720p AVCintra 50 &100 on the 250model
Varible frame rate (VFR)
1080i

I second that. I had 2 different shoots where a file or 3 were junk from using a FS100. That’s it for me. No More.

If you’re FTPing clips for broadcast then I imagine you got specs from the cable/Broadcaster for their requirements?

You shoould shoot, capture, edit in the highest settings IMO.
Export using “Current Settings”
THEN,

With that file you can create whatever you need for whichever deliverable. Make sense?

These are your DVD ready files. Video and Audio.

Bring those into DVDSP or iDVD or Toast and create your DVD.

File-Export.
De-select make Self-Contained and this will create a reference file for you.
