Yes you can. I used to do it everyday back in the G5 days. With a lot of rendering just like you!
Maybe I am doing something wrong then because if i had an uncompressed codec (rather then an aja) I could never get it to play back on my tv.

well we usually give our clients uncompressed. I know its always best to try and stay at the same codec till the end. But I cant use the uncompressed and play back through aja cona. Would this change anything on the codec i should export from maya? My boss is also very big on staying with the highest quality possible. Hes short of a stickler about it.

well its footage thats coming out of Maya so I really have a lot more flexibility to change it. What do you recommend as the best codec to use and still being able to playback on the tv. Thank so much for all your help btw.

Im working on a dual 2 ghz power Pc g5. The reason I have the compression set to Aja 2 vuy is so i am able to view it on the tv via aja kona card. I didnt think you could do that with uncompressed codec(or any other at that)… can you?

Jeremy what do you mean? I am confused.. haha sorry. I thought FCP could do transitions in Real time even in uncompressed. Thanks for the quick responses

sorry i meant 1280×720 30 fps.
As far as how many video/audio layers I am using it really depends. I am working on a 3d edit so it consistently being updated. It usually averages about 4-8 video tracks and maybe 3-6 audio. But even if i just have one video and one audio it still gives me a red bar.
My RT settings (the drop down one the timeline) is set to “use playback” Which in my system settings is set to “unlimited” and the box next to it is unchecked. Is that correct? I never really am sure what to set that as.
the drive im using is fiber its a 1 tb

Hey Jerry thanks so much for the help. Does it matter that I am not using apple monitors? I am using Samsung. Also If the final output is for a computer is there even a point to having a tv output? I always thought (and im pretty sure i could be wrong) that viewing it on a tv would show you the truest color and that would be the color that would be viewed by most monitors… Is there a way to get it so that it will look pretty much the same on most monitor? Or is it always going to be an issue depending on who is viewing it and if their monitor is set up correct

What is your frame rate? Also what is your time line setting at and also the video setting?
