Yeah this is an fcp thing when connected to an external monitor through a card- I think- will need to confirm with others. Many editors don’t notice it, weirdly. If you have fcp run off just the displays it stops bang on. I remember tearing my hair out coming from avid. Punch the ins and the outs or like others have said use markers on the fly. Are you by any chance using a blackmagic card?

For the love of god, if you need a new machine to do a job that you otherwise cant, buy a used 8 core. The chances of apple releasing a 64 bit version of fcp any time soon must be small, (probably equal to them abandoning fcp these days!) And the chance you would feel that difference in any meaningful way, at least until new camera formats come out and become established is even smaller.. The chance of 1st gen teething problems and that 3k difference- very real indeed.
Sounds like you just like to splash the cash though and are looking for validation… I’m kidding, but we’ve all been there! -
Gah. It’s a long list. The bells and whistles get added to with every iteration but basic solidity is always just slightly out of reach. They really should stick to making ipods. No, I take that back, it’s mean! I suppose like any company they respond to their market. More fool us for choosing the wrong tool! In doc land, fcp works just fine I find. Have you tried using replace edit yet? Same issue with loss of sync by the amount of audio precedeing the video… Major time killer.

I’m no expert – have only cut a few films outside of my usual doc work but my current one is shaping up like this:
Others might not like it but it works for me.
i’ll add a bin for complete cuts or parts of cuts (reels) further down the line.

Unfortunately i haven’t found a solution. If i felt i really needed a representative frame i just guessed roughly how far out it looked and marked an in point somewhere nearby as you have been doing.Sorry – not very useful i know, but i’m really up against things so I havent had time to rule things out properly.
It would be interesting to know if this really is a WAV issue and what happens when using AIFFs.(It’s time’s like these when you realise FCP isn’t really aimed at feature work…)

ps. i forgot to say this is not a drift issue – the audio is completely out as if FCP has moved the video to the start of the audio.
Also i forgot to say I have trashed my prefs, but no dice.

Just to chime in that i have the same issue exactly.. (merged clips from separate WAVs and ProRes) Would be great to fix it but seems like a bug…

Hmmm – i restarted FCP and it seemed to work this time (having renamed the THM files to match)

Hi steve,
i had a similar problem – the crew had renamed the mov files before sending me the drives… So I tried what you said:
“If for some reason you have renamed the original .MOV files just rename the .THM files to the same name of the .MOV files from the T2i.”
but for some reason i got the same error
“100EOS5D” contains unsupported media or has an invalid directory structure. Please choose a folder whose directory structure matches supported media.
Anyone got any ideas? I’d like to use log and transfer if possible to keep timecode & add metadata
