I’m also having this exact problem.
In my specific case i moved a bunch of aiff files to my main drive and then went to relink – but
as i’m sure you’ve guessed, all the file names in the “reconnect files” – “Offline files:” dialogue
box are blank eg. not there or invisible, and wont reconnect to anything.

I have also tried making a new project (copy paste into fresh project technique/ trashing prefs and so on)
I am using FCP 7.03 osx10.6.6 on a quad core intel xenon.

I tried changing the superwhites setting but that didn’t do much.
So changing from CMYK to RGB…

A photoshop job?

It’s the same with all the tiffs and jpegs so i’m completley confused.
And i know it’s not a monitor image as i can view the same image
beside my FCP viewer in preview or photoshop.

I have trashed prefs and everything…

If i try to just boost the image to get the detail back (obviously
not the right thing to do but just to see) the image falls apart…

What on earth am i missing?

i forgot to say that adjusting gamma in the browser or on import doesn’t fix the problem – it in no way restores the image to anything like the natural colours or black/white levels

Me too – HELP!
i’m having a similar issue with tiffs imported into FCP 7
I know there are shift issues on output but i think this is an additional perhaps related issue but do not know how to correct
for it – and having tried everything i can find by searching the forum
(changing timeline settings maximum white to super white etc etc)
Here is an example of the same image viewed in preview or photoshop
vs the same image (rendered and viewed at 100%) in FCP:

I am using high quality tiffs in FCP 7.03 on OSX 10.5.8
This is a DV PAL project for DVD delivery.

I have done tests by making DVDs and playing them on TVs to look at the colours – not so very different from on my apple monitors – blacks crushed, colours super saturated…

Does a simple workaround exist?

Yes the RGB/ 709 issue – remember that confusing the hell out of me when i first started using FCP
(I still don’t understand it fully, i remember doing some tests once – DVDs looked the same weather i started with a 709 export or an RGB export…)

I was more worried about the DNxHD codecs causing me any issues when it comes to delivery – i’m used to more of an offline/online process when using avid – but i guess i don’t see why it would – even if i have to err… deliver something like h.264 quicktimes..

I don’t want to jump the gun and say it’s definitely the card’s fault but I don’t think I have had this issue with konas. Or when not using a card. One thing I used to do if it bugged me was hit apple F12 to quickly turn off external monitoring when stopping the playhead mattered to me for rhythm.

The only really reliable way to share media without a server in fcp I have found is to make an identically named drive with the same folder structure and media. I find the planning and the fiddling with media manager takes more time than it’s worth and isn’t always reliable.
