Additional note:
Things like sprays and fountains seem to look best using Sprites. If you’ve ever played with Particle Illusion or Combustion you’ll see the presets look pretty bang on. It’s a bunch of sprites with small samples of mist.

Water is interesting because dependinon what form, there are completely different approaches. Rain is the easist because it’s just blurred streaks really. Particular has a preset for it.
Rivers can just be animated maps flowing down a flat plane like in a lot of games.
Water pouring in a glass is best done with metaballs or blobby surfaces. These are basically the same thing usually found in 3D packages. They have a clumping threshold so that when spherical balls get near each other, they clump together, How you set this clumping and the shader you assign to them makes them seem like water, mud, coke, whatever.

I export Animation codec out of my Nitris everyday as well as capture. He may want to check with his VAR for an upgrade.

Well, no because he wants x and y motion. 1.85 will only solve the Y problem. And of course 1.85 is used simply to frame a wider frame than the horrible 4:3 version we’ve been stuck with for decades 🙁
When your shot isn’t framed for 1.85 than it’s no better than the daytime carpet cleaning commercials that shoot 4:3 and slap a 1.85 mask on it (usually to add phone numbers and hard sells) 🙂
So my point is: if your piece will be 1.85 than you should frame for 1.85 on set, but then you still have the same problem with needing a scale-up.

You wouldn’t happen to know where I could put my hands on CPT, Ralf, and Response would you? I have Jenna which I live by, but would love the rest.

The free Cycore effects in AE 6.5 and 7 ARE the FEC plugs. Is there something in the Boris group that isn’t included with the Cycore versions?
If you haven’t loaded them already, they are on your install disc in the folder ‘cycore’. There seems to be all the old FEC plugs I remember.

Benefits to both methods:
In Camera:
pro| You can keep the image full resolution. you get true parallax.
con| You’ll have to motion track the BG plate to match the motionLockoff (movement in post)
pro| Don’t need to motion track the BG. Just key it in there then animate the cam
con| Depending on the severety of the motion, you’ll have to up-res (scale up) the image to hide the moving edges – degrading your image.Chris Smith

You can use the radio waves or circle fliters as a displacement map. Also a copy with a bit of glow on it. So it looks like light emanating that warps the map as they spread out.
