    Hi everyone,

I have a Avid Nitris editor whom I am creating High Definition graphics for. He is insisting that there must be an Avid HD codec to use. He claims that my animation codec Quicktimes are crashing his system.

Can anyone point me in the right direction? Do these codecs exist? I am not having much luck finding them on Avid’s website.

    Any help is appreciated.

    Did you find these?

These are Windows only, but then again… so is DS.

You can get the Avid Meridien codec for both platforms, but that only supports SD.

I export Animation codec out of my Nitris everyday as well as capture. He may want to check with his VAR for an upgrade.

i have had some luck with the dnxhd codec for output to a nitris. it works well on the avid side, but be prepared for some headaches on the AE side if you’re not used to working with HD, just cause its compressed doesnt mean it wont be a pain to render. BTW, make sure the ds is on v7.6 QFE 4, cause i had some issues with the previous QFE’s on 7.6

I think it should take a little longer because it’s compressed. Because AE converts anything it gets into it’s own uncompressed video stream. So every frame it has to convert from the codec to it’s internal use for import or the opposite on export.

So when the DNxHD is in AE it’s basically just a huge image it works with (I suppose theorhetically much larger than it was as the compressed version) then on export it takes a little bit more time per frame to compress it back to the codec’s standards.

    Hi Chris,

When you say capture a quicktime animation codec, do you mean actually importing a file, or capturing off of HD cam and changing that to an animation quicktime that Avid Nitris can use?

    Hi Frank,

I mean import. But the DS uses the term ‘capture’ for all of it. But if you go to the Quicktime and rightclick to select ‘capture’ it will use the ‘capture from file’ settings you have set in the capture settings.

If you capture from Quicktime using the Animation codec, set DS settings to ‘Graphics’ instead of video. Because Animation codec is an RGB codec and not a YUV codec (video).

BTW, if you want the Best advice on the planet about DS, go to Google groups and sign up on the DS list. Ask your question there.
