Just add a light, or turn Auto light back on in render options.
But just start a new scene. Create a plane to be the floor, add 2 spheres side by side. In render settings, turn on AO scene option. Do a normal render. There you go, AO.

Do you want them 2D or 3D though?
Color doesn’t matter because you can do a textured look in AE and a flat cel look in 3D. The point being any look in either. It’s a matter of building the world. If you will never see the dimension of the buildings then AE is clearly the easiest solution. If your camera will rotate around or fly through the city then true 3D is clearly the easist. But whatever your color scheme, either app will do it.

You can do it with Particle Playground. It’s a little bit of a bear but certainly doable. Really, Particle Illusion, Particular, or in the app Motion would be easier ways to do it me thinks.
Or if you have a 3D app, most will instance objects to particles very easily.

September 26, 2005 at 2:39 pm in reply to: Help with Logo Tracking & Removal on Clothingas far as just changing the color but keeping th luminance, have you tried adding a hue/sat and clicked on the colorize button? then set your hue and saturation(in the colorize section) to match the uniform.

If you want the true glow effect that glows the whole image then go to STYLIZE>GLOW.
If you want a halo of color around the alpha, then add DROP SHADOW. Set the offset to zero, the color to whitish, and the feather(blur) way up and the opacity way up.

If you happen to use C4D, you can download the free plug-in “CityGen” and it will generate a complete city instantly.

Actually when AE 6 was released with the text animator settings, I was thinking that per-character blur as a parameter would have been awesome. But it’s not there so you have to isolate the edge areas on another layer and blur that then SCREEN it back over itself. For example, if you have text on one layer, also put that same text on another layer and animate the stroke offset so that just a small chunk of text draws at a time. Blur this. So in the end your edges are blurred while they draw on.
The point being is that with masks or reveals you isolate the bits you want blurred, then blur them and comp them back over.
Also, imagine you have animated text to reveal using opacity one letter at a time. Copy this layer. Then on the copy push the opacity keys slightly forward in time and blur the whole layer. But then also only let the text show for a short time by having them opacity ramp back to black after each letter “settles”. This way the characters will be blurred as they are being revealed but then go sharp as the non blurred layer takes over.

Check the forums here, this has been asked many, many times.
Also go download the free demos of each one and feel them out.
I personally recommend C4D for what you want.
