On Macs, I recommend to output from AE uncompressed then use either Media Cleaner or Apple’s Compressor to do the compression job.

Ideally you woud use the plug-in ‘psunami’ or create the surface in true 3D. But somewhere I saw a bump map plug-in for AE. It may be worth a shot. That way you could pipe in the fractal noise to the bump map effect and get somewhat of a look. But bump mapping won’t get you the swells (geometry is better for that) but for riples and other surface features, bump mapping is good.

I’m guessing it’s a pre-comp issue as well. Because echo is completely straight forward. I would just try it on a video clip first (which wouldn’t need pre-comping). Just to make sure all is well.

September 30, 2005 at 1:35 pm in reply to: How can i avoid creating noise when keying or colour grading?Well, few notes. Yes coming out of Avid you are most certainly YUV which is converted either to RGB when it’s saved to Animation codec (RGB) or if nothing else when it enters AE (All RGB). The Animation codec is 8 bit so if you worked in 16 internally and rendered back out to Animation, you are introducing banding. But It appears you are speaking of noise and not banding, yes?
Are you sure it is noise and not interlacing artifacts, or compression problems, or banding or other? So it looks like if you bumped the gain switch on that betacam gain type noise?

[spockedit] “plus at this point perhaps the stroke has been used so much that if you can tell its 3d stroke… well, you shouldn’t do it..”
Extremely true.
Well, it may NOT be 3D stroke, but if it looks identical to it, why not use it? As far as not getting it to bend, just break it up into layers that are tilted on different axis. They already broke it up into layers anyways because it’s going in and out of the people layers.
BUT! this is assuming they did this all in AE.
For example if it was done in C4D, you wouldn’t have to break anything into layers, you just import the adidas signature looking lines from Illustrator, extend and bend the edges to come away from the logo and wrap around a bunch of planes that you mapped the sihlouettes on.
Then for the stroke, just use a SweepNurbs object to make a tiny disc gow over that path you created.
This way it will do any axis you want being true 3D and go in and out of the ppl layers without breaking them up, once again because it would be in true 3D.

Both are quite simply really. The 3D Stroke is a product from Trapcode called ‘3D Stroke’ so you’ll need to purchase that. Moving past it is just that. In 3D space animate your camera past the adidas word. So it’s not a zoom (focal length) it’s a camera move you’re looking for.

3 seconds!? That’s a loooong time for a modern video 🙂

If it’s like the one in DS, it will give the option to interpolate the two fields into one frame or double each field to make a frame, then you get footage at twice the length.
