How do I animate blur over a text
Posted by Nandu Marchi on September 23, 2005 at 1:30 amHow do I animate blur over a text? I mean, we can animate strokes, traking, scale, and control it with offset value. I’d like to animate blur and opacity, so my text would be blured on the edges while appearing. Thanks.

September 23, 2005 at 10:37 pmYou need to use a matte with blurred edges for your text reveal. Create the matte on a layer above and select alpha matte setting for your text layer.

September 25, 2005 at 2:14 pmActually when AE 6 was released with the text animator settings, I was thinking that per-character blur as a parameter would have been awesome. But it’s not there so you have to isolate the edge areas on another layer and blur that then SCREEN it back over itself. For example, if you have text on one layer, also put that same text on another layer and animate the stroke offset so that just a small chunk of text draws at a time. Blur this. So in the end your edges are blurred while they draw on.
The point being is that with masks or reveals you isolate the bits you want blurred, then blur them and comp them back over.
Also, imagine you have animated text to reveal using opacity one letter at a time. Copy this layer. Then on the copy push the opacity keys slightly forward in time and blur the whole layer. But then also only let the text show for a short time by having them opacity ramp back to black after each letter “settles”. This way the characters will be blurred as they are being revealed but then go sharp as the non blurred layer takes over.

Can you explain it better? Again, thanks.
