Bob, do you have any idea why a short capture duration would work fine in Premiere whereas a longer one doesn’t and gives me the “no capture settings defined” error?

Hey Bob, thanks for the reply. I know – the uncompressed video is WAY more than we need. However, when I switch to DVCPRO (under the settings tab for Blackmagic capture in the Premiere capture window)I instantly get the “no capture settings defined” error – even though I just set that capture setting……that’s what was confusing me…

OK, Thanks for the response Kristian,

I bought the ATEM TVS and now I have another question (posting here rather than making another thread)

I’ve plugged the chassis into my computer via Ethernet and have the chassis plugged into a monitor so I can see the multiview (which is really cool).

When I first open the switcher software a preferences box comes up asking “Where is your Atem Switcher chassis?” It then has the default ATEM IP address and tells me that this is the network address for my switcher.

Great, I hit Ok and all is well. I can push the buttons and it works on the monitor screen.

However, if I ever try to drop a graphic into the graphic pool, OR if I just wait long enough, the switcher “disconnects” and I get the dialog box again asking where my chassis is. I hit “ok” and all is well again until I try to upload a graphic, or – like i said, just wait long enough.

My actual network connection still says it’s connected during these strange lapses and wiggling the Ethernet cable produces no results (so, in my simple mind that means there’s no bad connection).

Any ideas as to what’s going on?

Thanks to anyone with any thoughts!

Thanks for the help, Bob – good to know the SDI to drive works. Sounds like this may be the way to go!

  • Ok well, it looks like I have to wait till we upgrade cameras then – shouldn’t be too far off….maybe this will expedite the process.

    Thanks, Shane

  • Hmmm…thanks for the response, that’s what I was afraid of.

Now, I went back and looked at Black Magic’s site again and from this image

https://www.blackmagic-design.com/products/decklink/models/ (you may have to click on “connection diagram” for the decklink sdi)

it looks like this card should take both HD and SD SDI video……am I still out of luck? Is Composite out through a BNC cable totally different than even SD SDI through a BNC cable?

March 11, 2010 at 1:21 pm in reply to: Recommended preset or transcode?

I’d like to go back to one of Brian’s earlier questions, the settings for the premiere project. What would be the best settings to choose when editing footage shot on the T2i? Maybe it’s because I’m still running CS3, but I don’t have options (that I can see) to edit full HD. I have HDV (which is a bit different, isn’t it…or perhaps not). This is my first entrance into the world of HD and I’m trying to figure out the ripple effect of changes that are coming as a result.

    Thanks

My final comp will be SD so I was hoping HDV would end up looking ok. I’m not familiar with “convert[ing] it to a non-temporally-compressed codec” How exactly do I do that and what is it? Sounds like something I should do though.

And thanks for the link, that is actually the first place I went when I knew I wanted to do something like this. There’s lots of good tips in there.

    Thanks for your help,

    Ahh, all good questions!

    1) No, I really haven’t ever done anything like this. but, hopefully, if you ask me that question in a weeks time, my answer will be yes! What I want to create needs a CG set and since I don’t know any 3d programs, I’m hoping to build it in AE. The video will require 5 3d sets with camera moving through them tracking the actor.

I’ve already built and tested 3 of them and it’s going pretty well. Sure its all VERY new, but I’ve got to forge ahead and do something totally new or else I’ll get pretty stale pretty quick.

2)No, I only have an HDV camera sadly and there’s no budget to get anything more. I know, it won’t be hollywood quality, but the actors are pretty small on screen so I should be safe. (And I do have all the Chroma equiptment. I blew a bulb last week but should have that back soon)

    3) Yes, I’ve shot some test footage with myself as the actor and its worked pretty well so far.

And, I think I’ve found a work around for the problem. The issue was my actor being fuzzy by the time the camera has moved up to them, well, I think I’ll just fade to the next shot before the audience can really notice the fuzz. Pluss, its all glowing and ethereal anyway, it should fit in with the other distortion…I hope.

Plus, my test footage is SD, hopefully when I use HD it will increase the sharpness a bit.

    Thanks for your input guys!
