UPDATE: I just re-built the effect and added a fast blur to both the background and drop. The drop starts in focus and blurs out as it falls and the background comes into focus – that reall pushes the realism, I like it.

Kevin and Mark, thanks for the input.

I tried out Aaron’s tutorial and used the glass effect to give my red fractal a liquid sheen, then layered that over the video background I want the drop to fall into (using Darken blending mode “I think” not for sure since AE crashed and i need to re-do it after I post this 😉 ) Then I put that whole thing into Mr. Mercury and turned down the velocity to get a nice droplet shape. Fiddling with the death and birth size of the droplets, I got the drop to start covering the entire scene (so all we see is the shiny, bloody, distorted view of whats below) Then, as the birth sizes get smally, the drop seems to “fall” into the distance, distorting the image inside it as it falls and revealing the real image. AND, its got a nice liquid look thanks to Aaron’s tutorial on that glass effect.

So, I may try tweaking it some more on the second build, but this turned out pretty nice. Thanks guys!

Ok, cool thanks alot,I think I got it. I used Adobe Media encoder and manually set the ratio to 1024 576. It now fills up the whole stage in Pi3. Two more quick questions if you don’t mind.

    1) When exporting just the particles I need to also retain the alpha data right? So i can then overlay it with my original footage in premiere? If so, is there somewhere i should go to read about intense emitters and non intense emitters (something with them looking right or not when exported with alpha)

and, 2) If I’ve exported in 1024 x 576 in premiere, have I lost quality in my footage even though I filmed it in 16:9 ?

Sorry for all the questions, but you’ve been very helpful so far.

    -Chris

Hey Dennis, thanks for your input.

The only thing is (and I’m probably missing something here) when I export my footage from a widescreen project in Premiere and import it into Pi3 it doesn’t fill up the whole 1024X576 area, it gets squished into the center and under project settings it tells me my screen stage is 1024/576 while my video is only 320 x 240 …? IT really confuses me, but I know I’m doing something wrong, people have done widescreen projects with Pi3 right?

Thanks again for your help Dennis…i’m sure I’ll figure this out sometime

    Thanks for the reply

So, if I film in widescreen, have my project set to widescreen it should be ok? Is there a certain way I need to export it in order to have DVD players and televisions know how to display it correctly (ie, a widescreen tv fills the whole screen, a 4:3 tv gives letter boxing w/o stretching the image)

also: I want to put this widescreen film on DVD with 4:3 movies…will that cause a problem for the TV or player when it comes to display?

Thanks for your help, I really appreciate it
