    Craig,

Since when does Handbrake spit out H264 files? This program used to be horrible and totally unprofessional, even when you transcoded the mp4 files to uncompressed they looked terrible in FCP. For this job I would just use MpegStreamclip, unless of course as was noted, the material is right protected.

  • You might want to go on the Canon forum with this question, sounds weird.

Lock all the audio tracks and delete the video. Or, export the audio to aiff.

Kona 3 is probably the best card. Plus great support from the AJA folks. There are several ways to take HD down to SD, for non-broadcast jobs I often just do it in FCP, and set nder video processint to render in high precision YUV, with motion setting on best.

You also can down convert directly through the Kona, or use Compressor.

Door stop or boat anchor. I have a boatload of old software that is obsolete, that’s just the way it is. Not to mention hardware, for instance, I can’t put Snow Leopard or FC Studio on my 3 year old G5. Go figure.

I don’t see why you need to capture to uncompressed unless your delivery is going to film. ProRes is a wonderful codec and very managable from simple SATA raids. I work with 1080i ProRes files every day on my MacBook Pro from a 1.5 TB two drawer SATA rig, it works great.

Yes, this is very handy, Select the bin you want to see in the browser, go to the view menu down to Browser items and select thumbnails. It will only change the one bin.

That means in the camera menu of course. It doesn’t matter what your easy setup is, as long as your AV settings are set right for how you want to capture.

You have to set the playback standard to HDV, by default it is set to auto.
