Help Extremely frustrated!!!
I’m trying to ripped footage from DVD for a cilents Demo Reel ( please don’t give me guff about copyright he is in the movie) I use mac the ripper to pull the VOB files out then I use MPEGStream Clip to convert them to a format I can edit them in FCP with, but for some reason when I open MPEGSTREAM Clip its says Im missing a MPEG-2 QT component, BUT I HAVE IT!!! ITS CLEARLY IN THE QT FOLDER!1 I even bought it again did a restart and the MPEGSTREAM still says Im missing it. I am about ready t through my computer out the window any help would be great.

I am gonna give you guff. You are violating copyright law. It doesn’t matter who you know. Throw your computer out the window!
You shouldn’t have to buy the MPEG 2 QT Component if you have correctly installed FCP.

if you have FCS installed (at least Compressor or DVDSTP) you don’t need the Apple MPEG-2 component.
If you have installed that component may be conflicting with the embed one.

Unless the material is copy-protected you don’t need Mac the Ripper. Straight VOB files can be pulled off the DVD. If it’s copy-protected then all bets are off.
Maybe you should give us us exact technical information rather than generalities. What version of FCP or FCS do you have installed? What version of the OS? What version of QuickTime?

Greg try a program called handbrake – it. Will spit out a h264 but if it is not for broadcast you will be fine – if it is macrovision you are a little stuck there are mac the tippers out there but beware of the copyright monster !

Since when does Handbrake spit out H264 files? This program used to be horrible and totally unprofessional, even when you transcoded the mp4 files to uncompressed they looked terrible in FCP. For this job I would just use MpegStreamclip, unless of course as was noted, the material is right protected.

Hey Chris fair call just offering plan b for a fellow moocowers ! btw h264 is in the most recent release …. As well as x264 which sorts out the gamma issue as Greg is only doing a reel this just might help – that’s what the cow is about help not obsticals
