Wayne,

I don’t follow. You are manually selecting one or the other sequence to work there, which automatically links it to the canvas. What more could you possibly want?

My workflow is a tiny bit different, but FWIW, I put my HD material in an SD sequence, and just do CC once. I have been pleased with the results as have my clients.

The only problem with the extra bus is that it uses up a slot, if you have extra, it’s a good thing.

Last year I looked into teaching video/editing at a local community center, here’s what I ran up against.

Macs were COMPLETELY out of the question. Compounding the problem, most people have PCs in their homes, so a PC-based solution seemed necessary. Fortunately, I found that AVID had AVID Free DV, which, while it has some limitations as to screen size requirements etc. was going to be a viable alternative to an Apple-based system. I actually downloaded it and began learning it, really not bad for a basic editing theory class.

Would I rather have them get Macs? Absolutely, but this is a government-run institution can’t fight city hall!

Well, that’s a good thing to point out Walter, in which case they are just like Kinemac, which I have gotten used to. If keyframing in FCP could do this, I would like it better.

Why are you exporting with Animation? Unless you need an alpha channel, there’s no reason to. Use 8 bit or ProRes. 35 minutes to export? how long is the piece, and what format is it in?

Was it always the case that FCP could, or would, downres through Firewire?

I seem to recall it could not do this or do it very efficiently in earlier versions, no?

Reason I’m asking is that I am running my laptop through a DV deck to get a picture to my monitor, and when I send an 8bit timeline to it it plays okay, but it’s very jagged on sharp edges. Seems my BM and AJA cardss have spoiled me on playback!
