That’s great you’ve made some progress, but understand, what you’re looking at is STILL not an accurate measure of what you have, that is, if it’s destined for TV. If you’re just going to the Web, your fine, but broadcast or DVDs, you still need a monitor.

For a fairly fast and cheap solution, try “instant sex.” as described by Chris and Trish Meyer in their still excellent first book, “Creating Motion Graphics in After Effects.” This can easily be done in FCP with no third party toys.

Copy your video to track two, add a blur to it to taste, lower the opacity to around 60% or to taste and change the transfer mode to screen or add.

Combine THIS with some great color correction and even DRW would be green with envy, not your money!

The canvas and QT player do not show what you really have in a movie file. A computer monitor and a TV are completely different, interlacing, color space, everything, you cannot judge your movie on these things.

Will your movie look better on TV? Dunno, it would, but it depends on how it was shot and how it was treated in the editing process, color correction, etc.

It COULD look better, MIGHT look better, but in any case it will look different. BTW, if you get even a decent TV it would be better than no monitor at all, you don’t have to get a $1200 Sony. But if you’re working in standard definition, don’t get an HD TV either.

I don’t see Mosaic on my G4 either. But, I’m wondering why text in browsers (Safari) seems fuzzy, same monitor, just new OS.

Antonio,

It is the exception that I need anything bigger than twice the frame size, and it should be mentioned that the resolution at twice the size should be 72 dpi. FCP chokes on large stills, so keeping them to the minimum is best.

BTW, I second the vote for Fotomagico, it is a brilliant companion to FCP, saves a boatload of time and works very well.

Hey David,

I had one of these tapes just last week, I copied the FW capture preset and changed the audio to 32K, and my FCP sequence as well, and set my DSR 11 to 32k also, worked like a charm.

Hmmm, Only thing out of the ordinary is that the icon for my Firmtek RAID turned vertical. Works okay though.
