  • Two Timelines on Two screens???

Posted by Max Frank on November 7, 2007 at 12:11 pm

    Hi,

I’d need to work with two different timelines on two screens and have the canvas automatically switch to the timeline I’m working on at a given time.

As it is right now, I have to manually select a timeline in a tab in the canvas, which isn’t ideal.

Any idea how to have the canvas automatically follow my playhead across timelines and monitors?

    Thanks in advance,

    Wayne

    Wayne,

I don’t follow. You are manually selecting one or the other sequence to work there, which automatically links it to the canvas. What more could you possibly want?

    Have a wonderful day.

If you open two sequences, you then have two tabs in the canvas, and two tabs in the timeline. If you drag one of the timeline tabs to the other window, then drag the corresponding canvas tab to the other window, then you can work on one timeline/canvas combination in one window, and the other timeline/canvas combination in the other window.

Is this what you’re talking about?

    Hi Steven & Chris,

    Thanks for replying.

The problem is, when I click the playhead on the timeline in the second window, the canvas doesn’t automatically play the video of the second timeline.
I have to manually click it’s tab in the canvas to bring up video of the 2nd timeline.

[At least, that’s what’s happening on my system – FCP6]

Why don’t you drag the tab out of the canvas window, to have two separate window. The second one doesn’t say “canvas” but it works the same.

Wy don’t you nest timeline 2 into timeline 1 and play from there?

    Wayne,

If you have two timelines open on your desktop the only way I’ve found to get video to show on your canvas for the timeline that is not currently selected is to actually click the tab at the top left of the timeline before you start working in that specific timeline. You’d either have to do that or have two canvases on your desktop as well.

What would be great would be if there was a way, perhaps there is and I just don’t know of it, that would allow you to gang playheads between sequences.

    All the best,
