I find H264 always looks darker than say DV or 8 bit uncompressed. I output using the latter, and you can adjust your gamma etc. in Compressor or Episode if you have that.

I just drop my 1080 footage into an SD timeline, adjust as to whether you want letterbox or center cut, render and get on with it. FCP 6 will add the shift fields filter automatically, unless you shot progressive.

I would do this in After Effects. But, not knowing what keyer you are using, not sure what kind of control you have over your mattes. There may be a preserve alpha switch somewhere.
You can check your alpha channel in the canvas I believe. Not sure why you are choosing Compressor for your export, FCP can do this all on it’s own.

As mentioned above, taking HD down to DV is not the best choice of workflow. At the very least, go to D1 and use 8 or 10 bit uncompressed. Your graphics and footage will look better. No you won’t be able to master this to DV tape via firewire, but then, that would be a shame to do anyway, as it is a lousy format for broadcast or mastering. For a couple hundred bucks you could get a Decklink card and go rent a Beta machine to master to, or you could export your program to disk as uncompressed Quicktime and take it somewhere that can make you a Digibeta master.

The best argument I have heard for a glossy screen is that nearly every TV and monitor you grew up with was glossy and you never even gave it a second thought. I really like my glossy MBP.

It will capture it in whatever you want, Firewire can get native HDV, and ProRes, if you have FCP6.0.2, or any flavor of HD with the appropriate capture card or io device.
