Thanks for your suggestion to do a search… The search did highlight the conversation on Matte vs glossy. And it also illustrated just how much these threads ramble away from the original subject.. What does “I was wondering if the AJA IOHD would support the AVC codecs. Maybe that will be forthcomming in a software upgrade” and a complete discussion of the IOHD have to do with matte – glossy..

I have to agree with Walter the reflections on the Black start up is distracting cause it reminds you to shave the mug… And there is reflections if you stand to the side and try to view it. But as the guy from London Digital Heaven mentioned the colors do pop and seem richer. Playing back a QT video clip from a job last year, I first noticed that people of color (the main subject) skin tones are just georgeous, but the compression mush from compressing a small dv camera video into a small QT video is much more obvious..

Which makes me wonder if glossy would work better as a field monitor for Panasonic HVX200-P2 which is to be its’ main job. Would I get a better focus monitor?

Anybody using glossy screen Macbook Pro 15″ with the HVX200 ????

Or will the spectral highlights, bright reflections, exhaust your eyes quickly.

There’s no monitor like a real monitor. I wouldn’t use the laptop as a monitor.

FWIW, I have worked on a glossy mac once or twice and it drove me nuts, but that’s only my opinion.

I agree with Jeremy about a true monitor but love my glossy MBP 14″ screen.

I do a lot of travelling and work on sunny trains as was very wary of a gloosy screen but because teh contrast is so high it’smuch better than the matt.

The best argument I have heard for a glossy screen is that nearly every TV and monitor you grew up with was glossy and you never even gave it a second thought. I really like my glossy MBP.

This makes me think of a joke, I am not commenting on matte vs glossy, it’s a personal decision.

This first computer that I grew up with was slower than the one I have now and had two monitor colors, black and green, but I never gave that I thought either.

I have a MBP 17″ glossy and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

I’m beginning to think I’m crazy cause most people fervently say to go matte.
I looked at them side-by-side and it was a no brainer, the glossy look MUCH better to me.
I was never distracted by any reflections as I can move the screen to avoid them.
I have to say that I don’t take mine in the field, it is my home editor with controlled environment, so maybe that is the major factor to consider.

using it in the field to monitor isn’t ideal, as suggested, but its MUCH better than the camera’s viewfinder. If you can’t get a proper monitor, use what you got.
