I use a free audio program called Audacity. You run a stereo miniplug cable from the headphone jack on a cassette player to the audio in on the back of the Mac. Then use Audacity to capture it, it works incredible. Real time.

My MBP and G5 are both running 6.0.3 and capturing fine. You may have to trash prefs or re-install.

David’s advice is correct, but check one thing before you follow it. It seems to me (David LOVES the “seems” word) he left out telling you the following:
Open your Sequence settings on your timeline and change the compressor to 8bit or ProRes. Render the sequence. Then export per David’s directions. This makes a difference between exporting from your timeline as some different kind of QT file.

Ouch! 70 hours? If you are happy with the look of the AIC stuff, you could go through your source clips and just make sure your naming scheme is bulletproof, which in the absence of reel numbers and TC is the only way I know to manage this.
Add numbers or somehow change the names so that you can keep track of everything.

There are hundreds of posts on this topic here, but in a nutshell, capture native HDV via Firewire or capture to ProRes if you have FCP 6.1 or higher. If you do the former you can avoid conforming by working in an 8 bit or ProRes timeline and rendering.
But, you should do a search, there is so much on this I don’t do it justice here. There’s also an HDV forum here.

What Walter says is correct, but I would add that the better the quality you send them does make a little difference in how bad they muck it up. I too send H264 at pretty high data rates, and they do allow up to 100 megs which is nice.

Since the bang is likely short, it may be possible to cut the same word(s) from somewhere else in the interview and patch it in. I have done this successfully a couple of times for other audio faults, but it should work with a bang, if you have them saying the same thing that is.
