I have FCP 5. What is the best format for YouTube? YouTube recommends mpeg4 (Divx, Wvid, or SVQ3 rather than h.264) but I only see an Mpeg4 output in Compressor and it does not have any options. Any help is appreciated, thanks!

YouTube is going to apply very heavy compression and convert anything you upload to it to the format of its choice.

We made a very very high quality H.264 quicktime for upload to YouTube and just let it compress the heck out of it. Doesn’t matter what you do, even if you keep it to the 100MB size, YouTube will mash it up.

Ken Stone has a good, and current, primer on prepping FCP files for the Tube.

What Walter says is correct, but I would add that the better the quality you send them does make a little difference in how bad they muck it up. I too send H264 at pretty high data rates, and they do allow up to 100 megs which is nice.

    Have a wonderful day.
