I’ve been working with that camera for a year now, in a couple of different workflows, I have no or very few problems with it. It is a great tool.
I don’t normally batch capture with it, mostly I capture to PreRes via FireWire, then re-name the clips.
Note that when you capture from it, you must set the playback standard to HDV, it defaults to Auto, and FCP won’t see it.

One thing you can do as a stopgap is work in a compressed format, such as DVC PROHD. There are a billion posts here about how good the quality is for HD on-air. Walt Biscardi swears by it.

No, it’s because you are using an HDV sequence. Change your settings to 8 bit or ProRes and render once, no more conforming. Conforming has to do with the GOP mpeg format, when you cut it, it is screwed up, so it has to conform.

I have a 2 gig G5 Power PC and a 2.4 ghz MBP, MUCH faster. I still have the G5 hooked up to my Beta deck and Kona LH but mostly just use it for SD and dubbs. The MBP has a Firmtek 2 drawer RAID on it, just fantastic. Sell the old, yes.

I know exactly what you’re talking about too. Sometimes clicking to another tab and back will refresh the view. But to Bogie’s point, keyframing in FCP is but one of the basic functionalities Apple have ignored for the past 6 or so years, in favor of glitzy crap no one needs that plays well in their stores. Don’t get me started…
