You can do this in one hit in Episode Pro. You’d just put your NTSC movie in and choose a PAL mpeg2 setting.

This was most likely done in After Effects. There’s a movie on using the clone tool on Adobe’s site I believe. In it, a single car is duped in much the same way as your surfer.
Been a while since I saw it, but I think it was Brian Maffit of Total Training, you might Google it.

Selecting “none” in FCP is not gonna buy you anything, it could hurt it. I would select upper, or even, which is the same thing. But if you just use the 90 min. High quality setting in compressor, and look in the inspector, you will see Compressor made some choices for you, usually correct.

Yes, re-install or update your Kona drivers. I have to do this about once every month or so, it seems some software updates that can mess with them.

A self contained movie is not a Reference movie. What you’re exporting should work fine. Perhaps trash your prefs.

That is the correct workflow, in the Inspector you have a field dominance setting, you should chose upper, but I think Compressor will do that automatically. Get to know the inspector, it is very powerful.
No benifit to setting FCP to none, on the contrary, it can reduce resolution. Don’t know why you would need any filters in Compressor, if you got the look you wanted in FCP.

Let Compressor do it. Usually best, unless you’re doing some timing trickery with REvision effects plugs or some such.

You’re talking about noise removal, no? Bias SoundSoap can do this, it is quite remarkable, but I suggest you watch their tutorial before using. It requires at least 2 seconds of your noise in the clear.
Soundtrack Pro can do this too, but I think SoundSoap is much better for it.
