wondering about this effect
Hi,
I stumbled upon this commercial and was wondering how the effect was created 30 sec. into the film where you see multiple simultaneous instances of the kite surfer moving across the water? I am shooting a commercial and would like to know if this effect is possible in fcp?

This was most likely done in After Effects. There’s a movie on using the clone tool on Adobe’s site I believe. In it, a single car is duped in much the same way as your surfer.
Been a while since I saw it, but I think it was Brian Maffit of Total Training, you might Google it.

Have you seen watching the diving competition in the Olympics? They’ve been using a standard PS technique that assembles all of the still frames from a dive. Looks like a sophisticated application of the ultra-simple difference matte. I’d start searching for tutorials on Difference Matte. Please let us know what you find.
