Fluorescent Light Buzz
Posted by Tom Prigge on August 20, 2008 at 4:20 pmI have an interview done right under a buzzing fluorescent light. The buzz does not make the clip unusable, just annoying. I’ve tried some filters in FCP with no success. Any suggestion what filter to use and what setting?

August 20, 2008 at 4:33 pmWhy sure, in a perfect world, re-shooting would be the way to go. But that’s not feasible. Any useful suggestions appreciated.

August 20, 2008 at 4:34 pmYou’re talking about noise removal, no? Bias SoundSoap can do this, it is quite remarkable, but I suggest you watch their tutorial before using. It requires at least 2 seconds of your noise in the clear.
Soundtrack Pro can do this too, but I think SoundSoap is much better for it.
Have a wonderful day.

August 20, 2008 at 6:11 pmAwesome suggestion! This got rid of 90-95% of the buzz. Thanks so much. This suggestion is definitely one I’ll print out and keep for future use.

August 20, 2008 at 8:31 pmBoth of these methods only work well if the “unwanted noise” is in a frequency that doesn’t compete with the frequency of your voice talent. If you are lucky, you can eliminate much of the noise without getting the “pinched, tinny echo chamber” effect on your voice print!
