There are several plugins that do countdowns/numbers, there’s one in TMTS and one in Nattress Big Box of Tricks, both are generators. Both are able to be altered, the TMTS one more so, including fonts and sizes.
You also can do this in After Effects with the numbers plugin, and some others as well, Text Anarchy works well as I recall, from Digital Anarchy.
Not sure how or if you can keyframe individual letters, especially in FCP, home of the most dismally pathetic keyframing on the planet. Don’t get me started…

There is no non-controllable device option with FireWire capture on HDV, it is VERY persnickety about settings to even get the damn window to launch properly. No can do, sorry.

In the HDV capture window there’s a new clip on timecode break check box, turn it off.

Well let’s see, 480+480 = 960, so your odd frame size would be around 960×720. Unfortunately, because of pixel aspect ratios, the math isn’t that simple, and then you have fields to consider, not to mention, a seam between your clips.
It is an interesting idea, perhaps it will work, you’d have to see what kind of distortions happen that may look cool, dunno.
There’s also playback issues, it ain’t gonna playback on a DV rig, you’ll need some kind of HD card.
There’s always uprezing a single DV image, but that take so much time, and there’s so many decent HDV cameras, or an HVX200, why bother?

Uh, it means widescreen as opposed to 4×3, but both can be standard def. What are you wanting to do? Using widescreen (anamorphic) is not hard, but you need to know a few things. Suggest you read this:

I have a D2 250 on my MBP via FW 800 and it will work with a stream or two of 8bit uncompressed, but I mostly use this drive to take with when I go to clients. For real work I have a Firmtek two-drawer eSATA RAID that’s fast as hell and cost less than 500 buck for the enclosure, cables, card for the MBP and two 500 gig drives. Fantastic little unit.

I don’t have an iO, but my AJA Kona LH sometimes goes away, about every two months or so, when this happens I just unplug everything and put it all back, and also repair permissions and run Disk Warrior on everything. Seems to work…
