    Thanks.

Although Corel looks cheaper to buy…I have no experience with it.

At least with Vegas I can get straight to it without having to spend too much time relearning basics.

    Thanks.

Would pro do a better job than movie studio? And would a recent edition (of either) be better/faster?

  • Yes…bottom left. Thank you Frederic! Glad i found this post.

    Thanks Guys.

If you wanted share a video online would you consider dropbox or a torrent site?
I’m thinking about giving ppl a link after a payment. I could then change the password after 48 hrs to prevent it being linked to on open sites/forums.

  • Well, although the koyotesoft encoder got rid of the aliasing that i found in Vegas, it fell down when it came to encoding a photo slideshow (which was part of the film).
The zooms in and out are stuttering slightly. I found a similar poor result in dvdflick.

Sony Vegas output was smooth and therefore much better in this respect. I may have to use a combination of both.

  • After having no luck with HC encoder (couldn’t get it to accept my avchd file) i went with a free HD video converter from koyotesoft.

Very basic little program, but seems to do the job of converting pal avchd to ntsc mpeg2 without the severe aliasing i was getting from sony vegas rendering.

I had given up on Tmpgenc plus 2.59 as it started crashing when judging field order (reading my avchd file)

July 10, 2013 at 12:07 pm in reply to: Just bought Vegas 12 suite…rendering cineform files

    Thanks John,

Coincidently, i had been following your webpage on creating a cineform template, it was the lack of ‘default template (uncompressed)’ that threw me in my newly purchased Vegas 12 suite.

I wasn’t entirely sure if I had changed it to cineform codec as the Notes (after pressing ‘customize template’) still mentioned the ‘Sony YUV codec’. I see now I can simply edit that.

VLC player says that the rendered video file is CHFD, so I guess all is ok.

Yes…hopefully consumer PC specs have now caught up with video formats so hdv and avchd can be edited without stuttering and stalling. I’ll find out in the next few weeks whether my laptop can really handle avchd. If so I guess cineform will become redundant?

  • Ok, i did some more searching and it seems this may be a problem

I may have to import the original audio from the avchd files and match it up to the cineform converted video files. Bit of a pain.

  • Thanks for that reply.

I’ve realized i actually converted these avchd files to cineform/neoscene files to make them easier to work with. Looking at their properties they are shown as a GOM media avi file (GOM being my default media player)

While the original avchd files on each SD card take up about 7GB, each corresponding folder with the converted cineform files takes up 40-50GB. With 8 folders that taking up a fair bit of room on my 1TB external drive.

My total 280 min project comes in at 55GB now that i have saved it as an avi file through a sony vegas render.

No problem saving the original avchd files (52 GB total). The cineform avi files total 330GB though…and thats where my project file points to.

July 20, 2011 at 11:47 pm in reply to: Sony Vegas lag…is my laptop fast enough?

I converted one AVCHD folder to Neoscene AVI files and they do play more smoothly in sony vegas plat 9.

I was wondering if there is an ideal media player for them?
Windows Player classic works best, but there is stil some stuttering and lag.
Gom player really struggles, and VLC doesn’t have the right codec support.

One more thing. Should i leave the ‘i frames’ boxed checked?
