  • Mainconcept giving poor result from PAL avi to NTSC mpeg2

I’ve had this problem for years. Rendering from Pal avi to Ntsc mpeg2 has always given me bad results in sony vegas.

Aliasing is terrible with overhead wires and beach chairs dancing up and down like crazy. I’ve been using vegas platinum 9 and now vegas 12 suite. Same issue.
I have relied on Tmpgenc 2.59 to do the encoding. Thats over 10 years old but give smuch better results.

Are there any reasonable free alternatives out there?

I’d be prepared to tweak the setting on mainconcept if someone has had the same problem? Otherwise i’d like to try something new out.

After having no luck with HC encoder (couldn’t get it to accept my avchd file) i went with a free HD video converter from koyotesoft.

Very basic little program, but seems to do the job of converting pal avchd to ntsc mpeg2 without the severe aliasing i was getting from sony vegas rendering.

I had given up on Tmpgenc plus 2.59 as it started crashing when judging field order (reading my avchd file)

Well, although the koyotesoft encoder got rid of the aliasing that i found in Vegas, it fell down when it came to encoding a photo slideshow (which was part of the film).
The zooms in and out are stuttering slightly. I found a similar poor result in dvdflick.

Sony Vegas output was smooth and therefore much better in this respect. I may have to use a combination of both.
