Storing my avchd project…which file container to use?

Since your original media is AVCHD (a heavily compressed format), ANYTHING you do to it (short of uncompressed formats, but that would be substantially larger than your original media) will compromise the quality.

This may sound like a “Duh” response, but why not just save the original files? You just need the original media files and the last .veg file and you can resume your editing from the last time you opened the project. (I just recently did that with a really old .veg file from Vegas 3.0). Do a “Save As” with the “Save Media” box checked.

I’ve realized i actually converted these avchd files to cineform/neoscene files to make them easier to work with. Looking at their properties they are shown as a GOM media avi file (GOM being my default media player)

While the original avchd files on each SD card take up about 7GB, each corresponding folder with the converted cineform files takes up 40-50GB. With 8 folders that taking up a fair bit of room on my 1TB external drive.

My total 280 min project comes in at 55GB now that i have saved it as an avi file through a sony vegas render.

No problem saving the original avchd files (52 GB total). The cineform avi files total 330GB though…and thats where my project file points to.
