The issue turned out to be a bad cable. AJA tech support was so responsive and helpful, as was our installer/guru Damon Black. He is a MacOSX/FCP/Media 100 deity from Dallas, Texas. Thanks, Damon!

    PS
Thanks to all who responded with a civil attitude to my original call for assistance. That’s what the COW is supposed to be about…

Going to the network control panel I deleted the firewire setting and created a fresh one. Upon rebooting, the mac saw the “safe boot” mode IoHD and is resetting the firmware as we speak, er… type. Cabling was an issue the tech at AJA suggested but this seems to be working for now.
Thanks to all who tried to assist without indictment.

I did all these things. Thanks for the extra sarcasm. In “safe boot” mode the mac still does not see the ioHD. I’m dealing with there support people (Hector is quite helpful) in California (I’m in Texas) and the email back and forth is a bit sluggish so I sought the opinions of the Cow folk. I’ll think twice about doing THAT again.

I am the producer and, sometimes, editor so I am slighly more culpable then an editor alone. However, the replies, which were various and numerous, have given me much to consider. Thank you all for your time. I’ve been away from the COW for quite awhile and forgot how generous all you bovine can be in a crunch.
    Cheers!

This doesn’t look free. I went to the link in the post and downloading this software requires that you be a registered user and supply an d ID number. Am I missing something?

Thank you, Ron. BTW, I love the new podcasts. I thought I was a freak working from home. Now

  • I use (with instant success) a D-Link AirPlus DWL-G650. Mac drivers are available online through orange ware micro.

With your orignal file open, create a new empty layer. Then go back to your original layer and select the objetcs you want to move. Having done that, go back to the layers pallete and you’ll see a small triangle. This signifies that something (the object you selected) is selected. Click and drag the layer (triangle) to the new layer you created earlier. Voila! It is now on that new layer. Verify it by hiding and showing the new layer. I have used this trick many times to seperate drawings I created without layers. In the future, use your layers as you draw. Age does teach you how to do things a bit more efficiently after all
