ioHD dead after firmware update

Agreed..

you did actually read the manual that tells you what to do to get the unit into Safe boot mode didn’t you?

( there is a little hole large enough for a paperclip on the back of the unit, you can use that to set the machine into safe mode that will allow you to reinstall the firmware on the IoHD unit.)

Note that the process requires that the IoHD be attached to the computer so that all of the files on the unit update in addition to the software in the computer attached to it.

I did all these things. Thanks for the extra sarcasm. In “safe boot” mode the mac still does not see the ioHD. I’m dealing with there support people (Hector is quite helpful) in California (I’m in Texas) and the email back and forth is a bit sluggish so I sought the opinions of the Cow folk. I’ll think twice about doing THAT again.

The “Safe” boot mode on the IoHD should allow the Computer to reinstall the firmware correctly – Note that it is the IoHD in Safe mode not your Mac.

you Rebooted the IoHD with a paperclip in the reset?

with it connected to your MAC you Rebooted that also – and the software does not see the IoHD?

Did you swap the FW cables?

Going to the network control panel I deleted the firewire setting and created a fresh one. Upon rebooting, the mac saw the “safe boot” mode IoHD and is resetting the firmware as we speak, er… type. Cabling was an issue the tech at AJA suggested but this seems to be working for now.

Negative-

Please – NEVER use or have the FW buss listed as a “network” controllable device in OSX – That will cause you any number of issues- your FW connection should never be listed as connection via IP or conventional network protocols.
