n illustrator, I am trying to distribute objects to layers. When I do it, it creates sublayers to the original object.

When I save it and open it as a project in AE it doesnt recognize the sublayers.

How do you distribute to independent layers?

    or/and

How do you import the sublayers into AE as seperate layers?

drag the sublayers to the top so they are individual layers.

With your orignal file open, create a new empty layer. Then go back to your original layer and select the objetcs you want to move. Having done that, go back to the layers pallete and you’ll see a small triangle. This signifies that something (the object you selected) is selected. Click and drag the layer (triangle) to the new layer you created earlier. Voila! It is now on that new layer. Verify it by hiding and showing the new layer. I have used this trick many times to seperate drawings I created without layers. In the future, use your layers as you draw. Age does teach you how to do things a bit more efficiently after all
