How random that I just seen this post!

I have been working on a tutorial using Dancing Dissolve in a creative manner.

Its just authoring now and I will be uploading it later this evening.

I will share a link once it is done.

I too would also be interested in the creative uses people have for it!

  • I came across something odd today regarding this issue.

I had been using CS 5 for a while on the same machine which did not have all the plugins installed. The .swf files were working fine in this setup so I assumed it was just some odd incompatibility with the files and CS5.5. Today I installed Video Copilots Optical Flares, opened the projct that I have been working on all week and my .swf files agin are loading in as 72×72 pixel square blank images. Knowing that this plugin was the only thing I had changed I removed it from the plugin folder, restarted AE and opened the same project. All was back to normal again… I have since removed the plugin on the CS 5.5 install and my .swf files work fine again now.

I am going to write to the good people at Video Copilot to see if the can recreate my finding and hopefully fix this.

If you have a similar problem to me i’d like to hear on here if this worked for you.

February 22, 2012 at 3:17 pm in reply to: problem importing SWF files

Same problem here where I am freelancing. I am on a mac os X lion 10.7.2 Mid 2010 Mac Pro. Using AE CS 5.5 with full updates.

I am having swfs working occasionally and then sometimes when i reopen the aep file I get ALL of my swfs as a 72×72 blank image. nothing has changed with the original swf, once it happen any new swfs I import are also coming in the same.

I end up having to shut down and reopen AE to kind of reset this, sometimes it works sometimes it doesn’t. It is becoming really tiresome now.

Did anyone find a solution yet to whats causing this problem?

    Thanks in advance

    -Chris

February 9, 2010 at 3:22 pm in reply to: Vector Paint crashing – Ram / Cache settings?

I have been using windows 7 64bit, and was having the same problem.

As well as the symptoms of sluggish interface in particular the project panel, twirling folders or importing footage was taking a long time (sometimes upto a minute to respond to anything). Tried updating QT, running updates on CS4, new network cable all the usual suggestions tried but was just making do with it. Well until vector paint was not even working for me and searched this, I was already running classic mode for my theme (very old school but I love it) so no go there. Someone in the studio suggested compatibility mode. I ran AE CS 4 in win XP SP 3 mode and the above traits have seem to gone now, and I can use vector paint. It is still a little laggy when drawing ( I am only using SD video and small brush) but least the experience using AE is pleasent again.

    Maybe this will help others.

    Feedback if it does 😀

January 8, 2010 at 10:26 am in reply to: renders coming out tinted blue (CS4)

That is interesting John, as I remember my preset I use is set to not export with alpha and 24Bit for my final renders..I think I might dig out the project later in the week and see what the final working render settings were just to satisfy my curiosity!

    Your using a Mac also?

Well that is 3 people I know now who have experienced this oddity…anyone else out there 😛

January 7, 2010 at 11:23 am in reply to: Rendering Problem!!

    Hi ya,
Glad some of the renders are getting out.

You had not mentioned if you tried the secret preferences yet?
If it is now on short sections crashing/stopping every 3 or so frames you might want to set the preferences to purge every 2, or even 1 frame.
I tried finding a link in the AE online manual but was very little chater on acessing it. But it is fairly simple. Hold down the SHIFT Key and with this held down goto the preferences menu, now on the drop down list in that box you should see a new option called secret. you might want to set it to purge every 1 frame.

https://forums.creativecow.net/thread/2/950846 this thread describes it, and googling secret preferences AE turns up more links on the menu options.

This might get the render finished.

As for the amount of particular layers you are using I can not say from my experience if that is a problem. I have the plugin but use it sparingly in my work and often just one layer. Perhaps others might be able to comment on that.

Let us know how you get on

PS be sure to set those options back to purge 0 frames and anything else you might have changed as it will impact your renders on new projects you start or open
