i haven’t looked into AE 7 much yet, but if it is in fact vector and scalable and the file size is comparable then go for it 🙂 only real reason to use flash would be file size considerations or if you need to add in additional controls to the movie.

primarily because AE isn’t vector and as such creates FAR bigger files for that sort of thing than flash does. if you’re needing to do something that’ll be viewed on a cd or something similar than AE would be great, but for web stuff flash is usually still the best option.

I hadn’t seen any connection to apple and this other than mention of the patent, the way i’d seen it on a bunch of sites was “look at what apple did” which didn’t seem to be the case. if it is i stand corrected.

I’ve seen this posted elsewhere and it seems a bit misleading, these two things really arent directly related as far as I can tell. the video is from a college project that uses similar technology, but apple has nothing to do with it (other than the fact that they apparently own the patent to the concept).

  • Figured it out with some help from a few people, even though I didn’t specifically see it in the tutorial your Mask Shape needs to be animated in order to see the echo affect the width of the stroke, simply animating the start and end points doesn’t do it.

Worse comes to worse and you can budget for it you can make the $99 investment in Sorenson Squeeze…it makes better FLVs than After Effects even if it was working.
