Not sitting in front of the machine now, but I think it was 2.2.3 or something like that. Works like a champ in both MC 5.5.3 and FCP 7.

Hmmmm. Wasn’t meant to be mature, nor immature. It was meant to draw attention to the fact that you are correct: the postings have been removed once it was brought to somebody’s attention that they were there. Humor was intended. If it didn’t make you laugh I’m not sure what to tell you. Perhaps I’ll work on my timing…

Alright, well they’re gone now. CENSORSHIP!!!!!

Also, for what it’s worth, the post is still visible in the Avid forum. Am I missing something? Your screengrabs are still there.

Hmmm, let’s see… 20+ hours of synced dailies for a feature, 2 and 3 cameras grouped… Different animals, but both very time consuming.

I’m a little late to this thread, and I see others have posted in defense of Avid, but I’ll add my .02 worth. We’re doing an extremely VFX heavy show for Showtime and doing TONS of temp vfx right in the timeline — no need to go elsewhere. The VFX super from Stargate FX is constantly impressed with our temps, and they’re basically copying what we’ve done. Lots of compositing with tracking, paint effects, traveling rotoscopes and mattes, all with the built-in Avid effects on the timeline. One of our editors did one effect this season in AE, and that’s the only one we didn’t do in the Avid natively — although we could have.
I understand personal preference, but I just wanted to make it clear that Avid is EXTREMELY powerful and is more than JUST an editor. However, to use it to it’s full potential you it you definitely need to dig deep.

Too bad it didn’t get a wider release when it hit screens. But that’s a long sad story… LOL. Glad you enjoyed it. For an even sadder story, check out the numbers and reviews for Creature, which hit screens two weeks ago. Ouch!

It’s a tricky one. If the show is shooting at 24fps, then the 60fps stuff was indeed probably intended to be slomo. The trick is to get the 60fps stuff into the Avid in a 1:1 ratio, without any frame rate conversion going on. The newer Avids do too good a job of converting whatever you throw into them into the “proper” frame rate.
Since I believe you’re capturing from tape, I’m a bit stumped. There used to be a setting in the Film and 24p Settings which allowed for 1 to 1 capture from tape. I don’t see it anymore.
If you’re importing files from Quicktime or similar, you can use the console command: IgnoreQTRate true
Read more about it here: https://c2.avid.com/forums/p/49806/281814.aspx
Also, I would recommend that you go to the Avid forums on Avid’s site and post your question into the Film and 24p forum. Those guys are pretty sharp at this stuff.

Funny, I’ve never ONCE discussed scratch disks and easy setups while cutting on Avid.
