I got a response from Harry at Automatic Duck today, and he confirmed that Media Copy would, indeed, be made available on their site. He just didn’t know exactly WHEN they’d get around to it, because they’re slammed. It will be there, though, which is great news.

I saw a press release this morning from Arri saying they’re creating a DNxHD recording option for their Alexa camera. In that release they published the 444 codec as 440Mb/sec, if I’m not mistaken.

Do Automatic Duck’s products help at all? They’re free now on their site. Just throwing it out there on the possibility that it’ll help. Also Boris FX has their Transfer utility which claims to enable roundtripping. Haven’t played with it, but would also be interested in hearing results.

Yeah, it’s gotta be compressed, ’cause the marketing literature says something about maintaining your pristine color in a bandwidth-friendly manner (or words to that effect)…

Yeah, gotta say I was feeling the same way. For a company that specializes in media production, you’d think they could have hired proper talent. Kinda weird. Not to mention that the video was shy on the details I wanted and wasn’t particularly persuasive from a marketing standpoint. Oh well. Still looking forward to giving MC6 a run.

Okay, so for anybody who’s interested, I got the UR28M and after MUCH trial and error I got it to work for a surround setup, using Nuendo 5.5. The trick is to assign the outputs to “independent” mode and then assign Mix 1 to output A, Mix 2 to output B, and Mix 3 to output C. If you don’t you’ll end up with a hodge-podge of seemingly random speaker assignments. It drove me crazy, and the manual wasn’t very useful. However, now that I figured it out, I’m VER happy with it.

Yeah, thanks for the tip. Bob Lentini’s Studio Frequency Analyzer was awesome in it’s simplicity. It was a 50 band frequency analyzer and by simply clicking on a band, say 8k, you could solo out what was there. What was even better, is you could cntl-click and add other bands as well. It is pretty awesome for finding trouble-spots in an event. I can’t believe how much I miss it, and that nobody else (seemingly) has done it. SAW Studio doesn’t get the respect it deserves, I’m finding. The more I dabble with other DAWs.
