Activity Forums Creative Community Conversations Use Resolve to import FCP7 projects into FCPX

If it is, as they claim, “as simple as that”, why couldn’t Apple do it?

I’m beginning to think there’s a reason Apple doesn’t want FCP7 projects going to X, which hasn’t been talked about yet…

Note, this isn’t an fcp7 project, it’s an fcp7 sequence. Big difference.

Sure there is a difference – so why not “think different” and give us such a basic timeline FCPexport to FCPXimport, plus the option to translate our old bins to keyword collections?

    – No Parking Production –

    2 x Finalcut Studio3, 2 x MacPro, 2 x ioHD, File Server w. X-Raid
…. and FCPX in the garbage bin

brilliant…just by thinking about a different way to do something you have come up with such a simple solution…would be cool to see you import and avid project and send it to fcp or take a final cut project, send to resolve and export an avid project! that would be very neat!

You could also use CatDV, both for FCP7 to FCPX and FCP7 to Avid/FCPX…

Not that big of a difference.

[Gary Huff] “Not that big of a difference.”

    You’re joking right?

You don’t see being able to transfer an FCP7 project and an FCP7 sequence as being different?

The sequence is your edit decisions only. A project is your bins, all of your media, and organization. You cannot use Resolve to transfer an fcp7 project to X. Huge difference, but what do I know?

Maybe all this is why Automatic Duck forged a relationship with Adobe.

The need for third party dedicated translator app may be on the decline. Programs are building that in. On the other hand the need programs have that ability to talk to other apps need to be built in directly so this is what Duck is going to do for the full line of Adobe post production apps.

Which is tougher to redo? Your bins or your sequence?

If people spent the amount of effort to make all their other duff technology and gear work as they are obviously doing with FCPX, my local refuse tip wouldn’t fill up half as quickly. They used to call this “flogging a dead horse”.
