    Hi folks,

Yesterday I’ve posted here a new subject on this very forum new details about the new, yet to be released Media Composer 6 which got on the Avid website erroneously last Friday.

For some reason this post (including screen grabs from the official Avid site that since got pulled) got deleted for no apparent reason. Thinking that most Avid users would be interested in these new details about their yet to be released product, I just wanted to let everyone here on the Cow know and warn about this: The moderators on this forum apply censorship if it could harm their relationship with one of their sponsors. While I thought that the Cow was an open place to discuss people’s problems and share new findings on their favorite NLE’s or whatever production tool they use, it seems like specific opinions or pre-release details aren’t allowed to be shared openly over here.

So much for the “new” Avid… seems to be just like the old one if you ask me.

NO apparent reason? How about that those details were released accidentally (as you yourself said)…and weren’t really meant to be out there? Avid pulled them down from their site. And most likely asked the Cow if they could please do the same. Or…the Cow people did it on their own, in the spirit of good client relations.

YouTube pulls down lots of videos that are posted that are clips from TV shows, or NFL games. And I would expect them to also remove a trailer for an upcoming movie that the studio didn’t want released yet.

It happens all the time. If you want to post it on YOUR web site for all to see…you are welcome to do that. Avid might ask you not to…to pull it down. And then it is up to you whether you do it or not, or want to get into things with lawyers and all that.

Doesn’t seem like you’re adding much to what I already said, Trevor. My post was more like a warning than a complaint. I couldn’t really find an answer when looking at the Code of Conduct from the Cow either:

A little bit of clarity would be appreciated. And don’t feel offended so quickly.

I’m sure there are other justifications in the agreement, but if you would like to see immediately where your argument is DOA look no further than the section “Copyrights and Ownership.” No further justification is needed, in my layman’s opinion.

Juan, I never want to quash exuberance over the notion of free speech, but don’t you think your accusations are a little over the top? A bit of crying wolf, as it were? If you DO think this is truly important, I think Shane’s suggestion is the best–that you host those images on your own website and battle it out with Avid–if they are so inclined–rather than attempting to force the Cow to play unwilling middleman.

I DO have to tell you–I’d probably come to your site and look.

Also, for what it’s worth, the post is still visible in the Avid forum. Am I missing something? Your screengrabs are still there.

Yup! I’m still seeing them. Time to cue up Buffalo Springfield. FWIW.

That sounds very mature indeed, Chris. Very much.

Hmmmm. Wasn’t meant to be mature, nor immature. It was meant to draw attention to the fact that you are correct: the postings have been removed once it was brought to somebody’s attention that they were there. Humor was intended. If it didn’t make you laugh I’m not sure what to tell you. Perhaps I’ll work on my timing…

Your timing was fine. Don’t trim it by a frame.

Juan, this is not what you are making it. Cow has EVERY right to take those images down. Beyond that, I’m pretty certain they have an obligation to take them down. I applaud your enthusiasm for free and open speech, but I would recommend coming to a better understanding of what that actually means. There are a few nuances to the practice that seem to elude you.

Oh. And I did enjoy looking at them while they were still there, though there really didn’t seem to be much beyond what has already been announced. I mean, it wasn’t a shocker or anything.
