I wonder if there a way to crop each of the 200 layers so that each piece of the “puzzle” could be as small as possible for animating in AE? No need for them to be the same dimensions as the main photoshop file. Maybe there is a script that will take a PSD and auto size the individual bounding box for each layer….

    Something like this!!! https://aescripts.com/pt_cropprecomps/

Just because the Null appears to be on the ground, back behind the garage, it could actually be hovering closer to the camera than the guy in the red shirt. Hence the weird paralax. You need to make sure that null is attached to one of the points from the cloud that is way back in z-space, like the ones on the grass by the parked car.

I would think during the initial explosion, with tons of motion blur, would be a good point to transition to the second explosion and have it not be visible.

What effect are you using to explode the logo?

Like.. animate the first logo exploding, then combine with an animation the second logo exploding – but time reversed so it plays backwards.

I would like to zoom in/out on an image that is constrained by a frame which does not change size or position

Think of it this way… The frame layer will be your top layer, like a solid color with a mask hole cut out. Your pictures will be layers underneath this frame, which you can animate size and/or position, all without touching the static frame.

Does the matte need to be animated? If not, you could also use the titler to make a soft track matte. I have done this before.

Those are the keyframes that would have been created when you dropped the effect onto the layer. If no keyframes were present, you wouldn’t have any animation. Again, all you have to do is move them closer together, instead of adding more.

Glad to hear you figured it out!

Without unlinking, I wonder if you might be able to alt-click the video and have it appear?

Maybe you should do a small test render to a .mov file, or something, and check if it still looks like that. Cause I’m wondering if it just looks that way while playing back on the timeline.

I believe Adobe has basically ignored these types of features because of the insanely powerful dynamic-link to After Effects. However, one way I can think of: apply a fast blur to the garbage-matted footage, duplicate the footage and place it directly above in video track 2, remove all effects from the footage in track 1 and instead add a track-matte-key effect found in the keying folder. Set the matte to video track 2, and adjust the fast blur to your liking in the track 2 fast-blur effect.

    See, so super simple.
